About Me

My photo
I graduated from Loyola University New Orleans (Geaux Wolfpack!) with a B.A. in Psychology. I recently completed two years as an AmeriCorps member during which I found a home at the Washington Middle School for Girls. Prior to WMSG, I worked as an adult education instructor for the Corrections Organized for Re-entry program (CORe). My mission at WMSG is to empower the students and stregnthen their voice. I hope to inspire a love of learning and a love of self.

Writer of the Month

Word of the Week

Coercion is the use of violence or other kinds or force, or the threat of such force, to dictate the actions of others.

Hot Text - http://www.sparklee.com

Coercion is often used to political ends, both by states and by other entities.

Coercion (primarily in the specialized sense) is opposed by anarchists, libertarians and pacifists.

Nevertheless, coercion remains one of the most basic forms of motivation, and continues to be used for that purpose.

Some consider that corporations may exert coercive force through control over scarce resources, such as food, water, housing, and others which individuals would consider essential to maintaining their lives.

TRANQUILITY Quote

Like water which can clearly mirror the sky and the trees only so long as its surface is undisturbed, the mind can only reflect the true image of the Self when it is tranquil and wholly relaxed.

Indra Devi

WORD OF THE WEEK Assignment #1 and #2

*Tranquil*

All of us might wish at times that we lived in a more tranquil world, but we don't. And if our times are difficult and perplexing, so are they challenging and filled with opportunity.
~Robert Kennedy~

When one has the feeling of dislike for evil, when one feels tranquil, one finds pleasure in listening to good teachings; when one has these feelings and appreciates them, one is free of fear.
Buddha

PICK UP A PERMISSION SLIP
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED

January 23, 2012
The location this year will be on the National Mall west of 8th Street near the Smithsonian Castle.  The rally will begin at 12:00 PM and continue until about 1:30 PM, followed immediately by the March.  Please dispose of your trash properly.  Use the receptacles on the mall.  If you can’t find a receptacle, or if the receptacles are full, please take your trash with you – do not leave it on top of, or on the ground next to, a full trash can.  Do not leave trash anywhere on the mall where someone else will have to pick it up.
The March will begin immediately after the rally and follow its customary route up Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court building on Capitol Hill.  If you are returning to the Hyatt Regency or Union Station upon completion of the March, please continue past the Supreme Court building, turn left on East Capitol Street and left again on 2nd Street.  That will allow you to proceed to your destination without going against the flow of marchers who are still arriving at the Supreme Court.  Please do not leave your signs, or trash of any kind, on the streets or anywhere along the route of the March.  Take it with you to your destination and dispose of it properly.

These Life Principles express the ideals motivating prolife Americans and indicate the purpose of the MARCH FOR LIFE:
      • We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all human beings are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among which is the right to life, and Therefore

  • The right to life of each human being shall be preserved and protected by every human being in the society and by the society as a whole, and

  • The life of each human being shall be preserved and protected from that human being's biological beginning...[for more information click here!]
